Until now, Natalie Portman has been one of Hollywood’s red-carpet sweethearts, but for her new role in the movie Black Swan, the Oscar-nominated actress is defecting to the dark side. Playing a prima ballerina on the verge of a breakdown, Natalie trades the modern elegance we’re used to for stark white skin, vampy lipstick and amber eyes painted in a Jurassic Park-esque mask.

“The character was very interesting to play, always challenging and surprising,” Natalie tells USA Today of her role in the film, which was directed by The Wrestler‘s Darren Aronofsky. And while she has shared this peek at her character, fans still have to wait until late fall to see Natalie pas de bourrée across the big screen, when Black Swan hits theaters.
